SIMILAR MACHINE,
DIFFERENT SPORT

The Golfer's Journal is the closest thing golf has to Stab. Both get paid by their members and advertisers. Both run on sponsors too, TGJ with BMW, Titleist, Bushnell, Stab with Monster on Stab Highway, Vans and YETI on Stab High, Pacifico on Surf100. That membership engine is what I've spent two years running.

What I'd work on first

Your reach and sponsors bring people in. I'm the person who keeps them once they're here, and runs the events that give them a reason to stay.

Retention

A big drop brings in a wave of new members. Most of them don't stay.

Every EAST or Stab High release brings a rush of new subscribers. Most places lose them a month later. That's the work I'm best at. At TGJ I dug into why people were canceling and got the save rate from 20% to 30%.

Events

Turn ticket buyers into members.

You already bundle Premium with Stab High and EAST tickets. Someone still has to work the gap between buying one ticket and renewing every year. I've done that across 40+ events a year, usually without anyone noticing there was a system behind it.

Operations

Somebody has to run the event logistics, so your creative team doesn't.

Registration, gifting, the cancellation emails, the day-of stuff. It's a lot, and it eats a filmmaker's week if it lands on them. I've run all of it, so the people making the actual thing don't have to.

EVENTS &
ACTIVATIONS

Beach festivals, retail drops, member trips. The part nobody talks about is getting people to actually show up and buy.

SURF OBSESSED

I've been surfing my whole life and I follow this sport the way the people at Stab do. Not as a spectator, as someone who's in the water and can't stop thinking about it.

I was one of Stab Premium's first 1,000 members. My welcome pack was Fu Wax and a hat, and I've been all in since. My favorite media from Stab so far: How Surfers Get Paid, Surf 100, The Mysterious Affair: Harrison Roach, and Andy Irons and the Radicals.

I've been paying for Stab since the beginning. Now I want to help build it.
